Wing Ding 2008 Come Early Traffic Sucks

Blogdate:  April 15, 2008.  4:41pm CDT

I receive dozens of phone calls a day from listeners expressing their excitement over Wing Ding. "Dude, how do I get tickets?"  "Driver, who all's playing?" "Driver, can you get me backstage?"  (The answer to that is absolutely not.  I don't want your grubbyhands all over my free food)  It's nice to know that so many people from all over look forward to Memorial Day Sunday to come see the little concert that we put on.  People come from not only Rockford, but as far north as Ontario, as far south as Alabama, as far east as Maine, and as far west as Washington.  That is to say, they come from everywhere.  And it's nice to know that at the end of the day, 99% of them go home happy. And that's what it's all about in the end, isn't it?

Just a bit of advice, however, for those of you who are coming.  Come early.  Unless you like gridlock traffic, come early.  Rt. 173 is a joke, and so is Forest Hills Rd.  Seeing as both roads are 2 lanes and are the only roads to the Speedway, and that we are expecting in excess of 20-thousand people attending, one can imagine the mess of cars that will be there. I pity the neighbors.  Actually, I don't.  They are a bunch of old bags that hate rock music and complain that we hold a concert there once a year, forgetting the fact that they live next to a RACETRACK that holds loud, noisy races 3 times a week.  (I hate curmudgeony old people.)  So, please get there early if you treasure your sanity.  But no, you can't go backstage. Unless you're my wife.  I know, it's not fair. That's okay.  She's way hotter than you anyway.  And besides, the backstage food really isn't that good.
